RSMR: Assessing suitability: Research and due diligence – FCA thematic review TR16/1
This FCA paper was published on 19th February and provides very high-level comments on the findings of their thematic review of the research and due diligence processes carried out by advisory firms, exploring how advisers select funds, products, platforms and DFMs.
The FCA accepts that whilst the level of research and due diligence will differ from firm to firm, with the objectives of any such research remaining the same, it is the culture of a firmthat is important to the success of the research process. The better firms had either in-built challenge in the process and/or individuals who were knowledgeable, enthusiastic and challenged the firm’s approach.
We have many advisory clients for whom we provide a robust and structured approach to their research and in addition provide that ‘healthy’ independent challenge and debate and we’d be very happy to talk to you to see if we can help your firm.
We have added the FCA paper to our Research Hub and if you’d like to talk to us about any aspect then please do give me or Jon Lycett a call on 01535 656555.
Our research. Your success.
